They can experience ground-in dirt and dust from frequent use — particularly if they are “working hats” like many cowboy-style hats are.

If you’ve inherited a hat, you might find that it’s a bit too small for your head, or it’s full of moth holes from years of storage. The lining can be soiled — or even missing — and the brim overly large.
